How Does Invisalign® Work?
Invisalign® effectively corrects a wide variety of dental problems including teeth that are widely gapped or spaced, overly crowded, or somewhere in between. Invisalign® straightens your teeth using clear plastic aligners that are virtually invisible so no one has to know you are wearing them. Invisalign® is made of smooth plastic that is comfortable to wear. Unlike traditional braces, they are removable allowing you to brush and floss your teeth as usual with no food restrictions.
Invisalign® treatment begins with a consultation to determine if you are a good candidate. We’ll start with photos, x-rays and digital impressions of your teeth to create a 3-dimensional image. Using these records, we can map out the exact movements of your teeth and create a virtual image for you of how your teeth will look. Based on your individualized plan, a series of custom-made, clear aligners are made specifically for you. The aligners are made of BPA-free clear plastic and fit easily over your teeth. They are smooth and comfortable to wear. You can remove them to clean your teeth and to eat and drink. About every two weeks you will begin wearing a new set of aligners, progressing you through to your treatment goals. To make sure things are going as planned, you will have a check-up with our board-certified orthodontist to monitor your progress and make sure your treatment is going according to your individual treatment plan. This is very important as an orthodontist has the specialized training to monitor your treatment and make sure your teeth, roots and bone are moving safely! Orthodontists also have the ability to use different tools and techniques as needed for more challenging tooth movements that sometimes Invisalign cannot correct alone. Always choose a board-certified orthodontist for your Invisalign® treatment because orthodontists are specially trained specialists who do ONE thing really well – create beautiful smiles to enhance facial esthetics and function!
How Long Will I Have To Wear Invisalign®?
While each case is unique, depending on the treatment needed, Invisalign® usually takes approximately one year for adults. For teens, the length of treatment is comparable to that of traditional braces. For the best results in the shortest amount of time, you should wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day. As you wear each set of aligners, your teeth gently and gradually shift into place. Once you have achieved the beautiful smile you desire, we will fabricate you custom made retainers to keep your teeth looking nice.
Will My Insurance Cover Invisalign®?
Many dental insurance policies do cover Invisalign® treatment. If your insurance covers orthodontic care, it most likely will cover Invisalign®. In addition to your traditional dental insurance policy, Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds and Health Savings Account (HSA) funds can be used for Invisalign®. We accept Care Credit and also offer in-house flexible and affordable monthly payment plans to address any remaining financial concerns.
What About Special Occasions or Playing Sports?
Since Invisalign® is designed to be removable, it is perfectly fine to take out your aligners for a special event. Because Invisalign® uses a series of invisible, removable aligners, it has little impact on your appearance and lifestyle, allowing you to freely pursue professional and personal goals without hindrance. While traditional braces sometimes make adults feel uncomfortable in social and business settings, Invisalign® is removable, allowing you to act and eat normally with friends and colleagues. Invisalign® will improve your smile with minimal impact on how you look and feel!
